Finally all our pestering has paid off! At last the Government have relented and announced a timescale for their long-delayed consultation on the future of Children’s Centres. It’ll now be in Summer 2016 – exactly a year after it was first announced. Still: better late than never.
Worryingly, rather than the inclusive, stand alone consultation we were promised, the future of Sure Start will now be included in a much wider consultation on Life Chances. This confirms our fears that the Government intends to use this consultation to side-line Sure Start: to make it a peripheral matter, which in turn will make it easier for them to justify their ongoing brutal cuts.
LFoSS will not allow this to happen. We have waited almost a year for this opportunity to celebrate the transformative power of our Children’s Centres. We will not waste it.
